How TripWorth estimates costs

Last updated September 21, 2026

Flights are modeled round-trip allowances using route distance, region, cabin and seasonal assumptions. They are not live fares, availability checks or guarantees. Replace them with a current quote that includes baggage and the complete itinerary.

Accommodation, meals and activities use regional price templates with destination multipliers. Dated accommodation and menu sampling is not yet complete. The six focus-city guides identify researched public-transit observations separately; a verified ticket price does not validate the entire budget.

Rooms assume two travelers, apartments four, and hostel dorm beds one traveler per bed. Odd groups round up to another unit. Hotel stays are always one night fewer than the selected trip days. A one-day trip has no hotel stay. Breakfast selected with the room is budgeted in accommodation rather than counted again as a separate meal.

Public-transit day-pass observations are used as daily planning allowances, without a seasonal markup on the observed fare. Buying multiple daily passes may cost more than a weekly product; check your actual journey pattern and coverage. Car rentals and private daily transport are budgeted per vehicle for up to four travelers. Fuel, parking and rental insurance need checking separately.

Month selects a broad local season. You can override it for an event or a different assumption. The displayed range varies modeled lines; it is not a statistically validated confidence interval. Your entered prices remain fixed in that range. Shopping is optional, and you should check local taxes, insurance, visas, baggage and contingency costs separately.

Reference exchange rates are dated 2026-09-21, sourced from Frankfurter. These are planning conversions, not card or bank rates. We aim to review exchange rates weekly and city observations monthly; the displayed source dates indicate the actual freshness.

All calculator amounts are internally stored in US dollars. Custom-price entry clearly identifies its currency. Changing display currency does not change the underlying trip budget. Research sources and review dates appear on the relevant city guide.
